Joanne K. Lipson primarily represents parties in commercial Chapter 11 cases, including creditors, debtors, and committees. In the past, she has represented real property secured lenders and other creditors, including municipalities, landlords, creditors committees, and trade suppliers, primarily in Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy cases, as well as Chapter 7 trustees. Ms. Lipson was formerly an associate at Preston Gates Ellis, where she concentrated in bankruptcy law, as well as doing real estate work in secured lending, title insurance and leasing. During her career, she also worked in-house for a real estate developer, a software developer setting up electronic case files between outside counsel and industrial entities engaged in multi-jurisdictional, mass-tort litigation, and practiced in the area of maritime litigation. Ms. Lipson began her legal career with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and re-entered, after a parenting detour, through the court. She has served as law clerk to the late Honorable Sidney C. Volinn in his roles with both the Western District of Washington and the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the Ninth Circuit, and also as clerk to the Honorable Karen A. Overstreet, Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Washington. When and if the rigors of raising twin youngsters permit, Ms. Lipson may venture out again on ski boots, hiking boots, tennis shoes and bicycle footwear. She also enjoys attending performance arts events and reading.
